What is Laura's educational background?

I began my career as a physician in an HIV clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico. This experience gave me a unique perspective, enabling me to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and a patient-centred approach.

Driven by a constant curiosity to improve the healthcare system, I pursued a Master's in Health Systems Research at the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico. My focus was on evaluating the implementation of Mexico's Intercultural Health Policy. During this period, I also broadened my skills as a visiting research scholar at Emory University, improving my expertise in mixed methods research.

Eager to scale up health tech innovations, I embarked on a transformative journey to earn an MBA with dual specializations in Innovation and Entrepreneurship & Healthcare Management from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. This educational endeavour gave me a profound understanding of business and innovation strategies tailored to the health tech industry.

My academic journey also includes certifications in Mastering Design Thinking from MIT Sloan School of Management and Health Informatics from Northeastern University in the US. These certifications exemplify my commitment to embracing diverse perspectives and innovative methodologies in shaping the future of healthcare.

Over the years, I have worn multiple hats, serving as a physician, health systems researcher, and consultant for public and private health tech entities in the US and Canada. This diverse background equips me with a unique blend of medical knowledge, research expertise, and business acumen, allowing me to uncover valuable insights that facilitate informed and timely business decisions.

In addition to my extensive expertise, I have a deep understanding of engaging diverse communities. I specialize in connecting with underserved populations, including individuals living with HIV, members of the LGBTQ+ community, indigenous peoples, immigrants, and low-income families, among others.
